Proposals are generally sweet, romantic gestures and are supposed to be well thought out and planned. Some take a more casual or traditional approach by proposing in restaurants, or on romantic vacations, while others go all out and attempt a more extreme approach. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. When going for the more extreme though, it can often be a risk, you can either really impress your partner, or in some cases, it can just blow up in your face. We collected some really bizarre proposals, some of them worked out really well while others failed miserably. Check them out and maybe they’ll give you some far-fetched ideas.
So let the bizarreness begin!
For your eye’s convenience, we’ve seperated the proposals into different categories.
Hacking Video Games
1. Chrono Tiger Hack
This guy hacked into the video game his girlfriend was playing and added a whole new level. It’s quite long so you know it took a long time to do.
2. Super Mario Brothers Hack
Another guy did the same thing, but with a super mario brothers video. These proposals took some serious time to prepare!
Live on TV
3. Miss Miami USA
Lia Anter was a Miss Miami USA contestant standing beside her competitiors anxious to find out the scores of who one. Low and behold, her name was called and her boyfriend who she did not know had returned from Iraq came on stage and proposed. Very sweet, very romantic but very ackward for the rest of the girls that were standing there.
4. “I’m Giving Back My Harvard Degree”
Harvard University, one of the most prestigious schools, let a student give a speech and propose during their graduation ceremony. Although this is quite a bizarre way to propose, I did like the speech he gives and how he presents his proposal. Check it out!
5. Breaking a World Record
This one is quite creative, the guy sought out to break a world record and get proposed at the same time. This whisper chain proposal even made the Huffington Post and ceveral other news channels.
Sorry we couldn’t find a shorter video. No need to watch more than the first three minutes.
Musicals
6. Disneyland Style
Many people have commented on the following proposal. As a romantic, I personally like it but overall it may seem to others a bit corny and has even been criticized for seeming too fake. I think it’s a must see and that the guy should get some serious props for the hard work and planning he put into it.
7. Music Video Style
I think of them all this is the most well known and Bizarre proposal. Pete Simson, a British sports reporter, hired a cinema, filled it with actors and played this video to his then-girlfriend. In the video he makes his own version of Daniel Bedengfields “If you’re not the one”.
Twitter Style
We are definitely in a social networking world. Some see it as making us closer by having more communication while others argue that it hinders our need to be physically close. So what does it mean when someone proposes on Twitter? These two couples were both in long distance relationships at the time and felt that it was the right thing to do. If you ask me, it’s not too romantic.
8. Hand in Marriage
@maxkiesler proposed to @emilychang on March 20th, 2008.

9. Will you marry me?
@garazi proposed to @stefsull on March 2nd, 2008.

Just Plain Twisted
10. SAW: The Proposal
I am a romantic. I don’t like scary movies and I definately dont see anything romantic about the following proposal but who am I to judge?
Proposal Fail
11. Woman Proposing in Lingerie
I think this is everyone’s worst nightmare. A women gets in some Lingerie, steps into a cake and is rolled into a room full of people and then is left standing there after her failed proposal. I wasn’t able to find a video of it, but I did find this…
12. Up, Up and Away
This was a very sweet idea although the guy didn’t think too much ahead. He bought a nice engagement ring, thought of a romantic way to propose, even got someone to record. So where did he go wrong? Well, he didn’t think about the possibility of his girlfriend letting go of the heart shaped balloons he had given her, from the excitement of seeing him get down on one knee, while not knowing the ring was attached to them.
13. Someone else spoils the surprise
I was tempted to put this one in the fail category below because out of all these bizarre proposals, I think this may be the saddest one. The reporter interviews the football player and then ruins his surprise proposal. Personally, I would have punched the guy, but in the end the girl said yes.
14. Center Court
This one is probably the most famous of them all. Half time at a basketball game, guy decides to propose to his girlfriend who then walks off the court and leaves him there on one knee. The team mascot had comfort him off the court.
BONUS: Fail Blog Valenitine’s Day Special
