Scientist say if the history earth was represented by a big clock, we’ve only been on it for five minutes. Kind of surprising when you think how long we’ve been here, and the accomplishments we have made along the way. I mean, have you tried Activia? A delicious yogurt that keeps you regular? That must be the invention of an ancient and wise raise. But in the history of time, humans are still infants, barely out of diapers. The planet has a very long memory. Do you know what doesn’t have a long memory? Us. As technological advancements speed up, our attention span shrinks. We want everything and we want it right now. If a website can’t offer that, we’re gone. Social media is a new concept, but look how many fossils we’ve already left in the dust.

The internet can be a source of great good and great evil, but usually it’s a source of great distraction. We Twitter about the annoying guy in front of us in line, “lol” at a friend’s Facebook status, and take pictures of the weird thing the guy on a video chat can do. It’s fun and entertaining, but it’s rare when anything we do in the cyber world makes a serious impact in the concrete world. So when we make a difference, when we change things a little bit through out sheer numbers and force of will, it feels amazing. It feels like there’s nothing we can’t do. A lot of us had that feeling when Betty White was chosen to host Saturday Night Live on May 8th.

I am sure that you would be surprised by how many people think that all the tweets on Twitter, all the blog posts, and all the information of Facebook are computerized. In fact, some people are even convinced that I’m a computer, or that my messages to you are automated. Once, after having a chat with this guy, he wrote in a message that he thought I’m not for real. To be honest I was quite offended.

Until just a few short years ago, I wasn’t very sociable. I wouldn’t have considered my self a loner and I always had people around me but I definitely wasn’t as outgoing as I am today. I don’t really know what changed in me. I’m not sure if it was because I just grew up, or I gained more confidence or if I just became indifferent to what other people thought of me.
